SHROPSHIRE, England — A driver was killed instantly when his VW Golf slammed head-on into an ambulance transporting a crash victim.
The ambulance did not have its siren or emergency lights on, according to the Daily Mail.
The force of the impact nearly tore the engine cover off of the ambulance, and the Golf became embedded in the emergency vehicle’s front.
The driver was trapped in the emergency vehicle for two hours while responders attended to the Golf victim first.
Both the driver of the ambulance and a passenger in the Golf had to be cut free and airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Despite responders’ efforts, the driver of the Golf was declared dead at the scene.
Another EMT in the ambulance suffered a wrist injury and was taken to another hospital.
