SALISBURY, N.C. — A patient was injured in a North Carolina ambulance crash Friday after a vehicle allegedly struck the rig and then sped off.
Salisbury police say the NuCare ambulance was at an intersection when it was rear-ended by a silver four-door Chrysler at about 10 a.m., according to WBTV.
The paramedic who was driving the rig got out and spoke with the driver of the four-door, who was described as a black man in his 30s with shoulder-length dreadlocks. The paramedic said the man had agreed to pull over into a parking lot but that the driver then sped away from the scene.
Police are now searching for the driver and said members of the public can leave a tip by calling the Salisbury Police Department or Salisbury Rowan Crime Stoppers.
The patient experienced back pain due to the crash, and the ambulance sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage.
The paramedic reported that the man had a three-year-old child in the vehicle with him and that a smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.
