2 paramedics injured, 1 airlifted after ambulance crash

The ambulance veered into a tree after being hit by a car; the paramedics were returning from a call

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — Two North Carolina paramedics were injured early Sunday morning when a car ran a stop sign and hit their ambulance, causing it to veer off of the road and into a tree.

WFMY.com reported the two paramedics were returning from a call when the crash happened.

One paramedic was airlifted to the hospital and is now in stable condition. The second paramedic suffered minor injuries. The driver of the car who hit the ambulance was not injured.

“I woke up and looked out the kitchen window and the next thing I know, this whole intersection was full of cars. This the first time I’ve seen anything out here that dramatic,” said Billy Woods, who lives across from the intersection where the crash occurred.

Highway patrol is investigating the crash.
