AUGUSTA, Maine — Two paramedics and two civilians were hospitalized Saturday after an ambulance and sport utility vehicle crashed.
The rescue unit was transporting a patient when it collided with an SUV that was carrying four individuals.
“We had to have more ambulances come to the scene,” Augusta Fire Battalion Chief Scott Dunbar told Central Maine.
According to the chief, the ambulance had its lights and sirens on when the collision occurred. The patient aboard did not sustain any additional injuries.
The two firefighter-paramedics suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital before being released.
“I believe both vehicle were destroyed. There was pretty significant impacts on both,” Police Lt. Christopher Massey said. “We’re thankful it wasn’t worse.”
The report on the crash remained incomplete as of Sunday.
