TEMPLE, Texas — A paramedic who was struck by an alleged drunk driver in August remains in intensive care after having eight surgeries.

KWTX reported that Waco paramedic Rory Barros’ latest surgery was to continue to clean out deep wounds from the incident, according to his wife, Amy Barros.

“His wound continues to heal ... they removed another small portion of skin but his muscle continues to look super healthy,” Amy said. “There is a very good chance they will try and start reconstruction surgery on his right knee on Thursday.”

Last week, Barros was in partial renal failure, but his kidneys continue to improve.

“We received our benefit T-shirt today and I felt SO incredibly proud to wear it all day! In this family, NO ONE fights alone!!” Amy posted on her Facebook page.
