BRIDGEVILLE, Del. — A 47-year-old man died Thursday in Bridgeville when a trench he was working in collapsed around him at 10:05 a.m.
It took about five hours for emergency crews to recover the body of Richard A. White, 47, of Milford from the trench, which was about 8 feet deep, 11 feet wide and 12 feet long.
White was part of a crew working in the trench to connect a sewer lateral from an underground main line to a house under construction on Harlequin Loop in the Heritage Shores development, Sussex County government spokesman Chip Guy said.
