EL PASO, Texas — As the temperature climbed toward 100, firefighters and emergency medical workers were sent just before 3 p.m. Saturday to rescue a group of young adults from the Tom Mays Unit of Franklin Mountains State Park.

Eleven people, all in their 20s, needed to be rescued from the mountain trail. They had started their hike around 9 a.m. and ran out of water long before they made it back. A team from the Combined Search and Rescue Team rescued the hikers about two miles up the trail.

One woman was taken to University Medical Center to be treated for heat exhaustion and was in stable condition, said Fire Department spokesman George De La Torre. The others were treated at the scene.
