Man speeds off with paramedic who revived him from overdose

Police said the man will be charged with driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct

ERIE COUNTY, Pa. An EmergyCare paramedic was unharmed Saturday afternoon after a drug overdose victim he revived inside a car sped off with the paramedic still in the vehicle.

The incident began in the parking lot of Kmart, at 1320 E. Grandview Blvd., and ended at Walmart, at 2711 Elm St., according to Erie County dispatch. The medic exited the vehicle somewhere between Kmart and Walmart, but it was not immediately clear if he jumped from the car, a burgundy Ford Focus, while it was moving.

Erie Police tracked the vehicle to Walmart and took the man into custody at 2:14 p.m.

Police said the man will be charged by summons with driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, and a vehicle code violation.

Paramedics had responded to a call about a possible overdose at Kmart and discovered the person, whose identity was not immediately available, inside the vehicle.
