EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A car chasing a truck may have been the cause of an accident involving an ambulance early Wednesday morning that sent three people to the hospital.
The accident happened at Lincoln Avenue and Green River Road just after 1 a.m. but it all started in Newburgh when police say a truck headed west on Lincoln ran a red light and struck the ambulance.
“We believe the subject in the white car caught the subject in the truck breaking into their car,” explained Sgt. Ted Karges of the Evansville Police Department. “The subject in the truck and the people in the car chased them over here to Evansville.”
The driver and a passenger in the truck and one of the paramedics inside the ambulance were hurt but their injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
Police say the two inside the truck were arrested — one for disorderly conduct and one for public intoxication.
“They were told to leave the area and they refused to,” Karges said. “One attempted to get out of his car and almost struck an officer with his car door and he was arrested. The other one was told he was free to go and he refused to leave and it was obvious that he was intoxicated on some type of narcotic drug.”
The paramedics were the only occupants of the ambulance.
