ALBUQUERQUE, N.M — The man accused of killing a Florence County paramedic and a New Mexico State Police officer may be preparing to change his plea in his federal case.
A notice was filed on Monday scheduling a “change of plea hearing” for Jaremy Smith on Jan. 17, WMBF reported.
Smith faces federal charges of carjacking resulting in death and discharging a firearm during and about a violent crime in connection with the death of New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.
The District of New Mexico declined to comment on the upcoming change of plea hearing.
