In this week’s Inside EMS podcast, hosts Chris Cebollero and Kelly Grayson discuss the recent story about a television station accusing EMTs of posing at an accident scene.
“They have since pulled the story, but have not offered an apology to the medics,” Kelly said. “Viewers, especially the EMS viewers, need to let that station know that we expect responsible and unbiased journalism. And hit pieces on EMTs will not go without comment from us.”
Chris and Kelly debate ALS versus BLS in their clinical issue segment. Kelly begs the question: “What do you think is more valuable in EMS? ALS or BLS care?”
“I am going to say that ALS care is the crux of what we do in our business,” Chris said. “The times that you need a paramedic on scene to deliver that ALS care is very practical and something we should continue doing.”
Kelly takes the opposite side and states that BLS gives more value.
“The first few minutes of a call are going to be spent on BLS interventions and stabilizations,” Kelly claimed. “It’s not like we don’t have the data to support my position.”
They also interview Don Lundy, President of NAEMT, about the importance of the Field EMS Bill introduced in the Senate.
