Former EMT remembers Hurricane Katrina’s chaos and destruction

Bill Brown, former NREMT director, was in New Orleans for EMS World when Katrina struck; he decided to stay and help

NEW ORLEANS — A central Ohioan found himself on the front lines during Hurricane Katrina 10 years ago this weekend.

Bill Brown was the former Director of the National Registry of EMTs and a nurse/EMT by profession. He recalls the rains of Hurricane Katrina as something he had never seen, nor expected to see.

In 2005, Brown was in New Orleans for an EMT conference when Katrina started brewing in the gulf.
