NISSWA, Minn. — After Miles Weske was critically injured in a medical helicopter crash Sept. 17, a local elementary school raised $3,800 for him and his family.
The elementary school — where two of Weske’s children attend — raised funds by selling $1 duct tape that was used to tape Principal Molly Raske to the gym wall.
“Really our goal is just to make sure we’re supporting him through this,” Raske told the Echo Journal. “Just send great thoughts towards Miles, healing thoughts.”
Weske was critically injured following the crash. He sustained broken ribs and sternum, a liver laceration, bruised lungs, a spinal fracture and brain bleeding.
Weske’s fiance, Brooke, said that their plans to marry in early October have been postponed. She said the outpouring of support has been “incredible.”
“It means so much that others are going out of their way to help Miles. I can’t express enough thanks to everyone involved,” she said.
Earlier this week, Weske opened his eyes for the first time and although he cannot yet speak he is able to mouth phrases.
“I know that if this had happened to someone else, Miles would be right there rallying for that person as well,” she said.
