Kan. officials say dog in truck stepped on gun, shooting, killing hunter in front seat

SUMNER COUNTY, Kan. — A man in the front passenger seat of pickup was shot and killed after a dog stepped on a gun, KWCH reported Monday.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s office said that the death of Joseph Austin Smith, 30, is related to hunting and that he died at the scene.

“Responding units arrived within minutes of the 911 call and started CPR,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Wellington Fire and EMS also responded, according to the authorities.
