Dates Are Set for the 2006 National EMS Memorial Bicycle Ride

The 2006 National EMS Memorial Bicycle Ride will be taking place from May 21, 2006 to May 27, 2006.

The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride is a long distance bicycle ride from NY City to Roanoke, VA. The ride is held in conjunction with EMS Week, The National EMS Memorial Service and To The Rescue Museum.

The primary purpose of The National EMS Memorial Ride is to honor EMS personnel who have died in the line of duty.

In addition to the ultimate reason for the EMS Bike Ride, we ride for several other reasons. We strive to raise public awareness of Emergency Medical Services. We also ride to promote bicycling as an alternate form of transportation and as a good form of physical activity.

The ride will start Sunday May 21, 2006 at The FDNY-EMS Academy at Fort Totten, N.Y. The ride will then travel through Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island before entering N.J.

The riders will spend the night at The Days Inn Located on US Route 206 in Hillsbourogh, N.J.

Day 2 of the ride will start at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2006. The riders will depart Hillsbourough for Philadelphia, Pa The ride will travel via Washingtons Crossing, N.J.

The riders and their support team will stay at The Holiday Inn Stadium in Philadelphia. Collingdale Fire Company #1 represented by Chief Ken Felker will host the riders for a dinner the evening of Monday, May 22, 2006.

The riders will depart Philadelphia at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 23 and will spend the day traveling to Baltimore, Md.

Day 4 of The 2006 National EMS Bike is Wednesday, May 24, 2006. The ride will travel between the Washington, DC area and Woodstock, Va. via Manassas, Va.

The riders and their support team will stay at The Comfort Inn in Woodstock, Va.

The Woodstock Rescue Squad represented by Karen Wagner will host the riders for a dinner the evening of Wednesday May 24.

The riders will depart Woodstock, Va. at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 25. Riders with their support team will spend the day riding on US Route 11 to Staunton, Va.

Upon arrival in Staunton the riders will be hosted by The Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad. The riders will spend the night at The Hampton Inn.

Departure for Roanoke is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 26 The ride will continue following US Route 11.
