U.S. Army to use GlideScope® Ranger Video Laryngoscope

BOTHELL, Wash.—Verathon’s GlideScope® Ranger Video Laryngoscope has been granted Airworthiness Certification from the U.S. Army. The certificate allows the device to be used by military healthcare personnel in some of the most demanding settings.

The U.S. Army Airworthiness Certification and Evaluation program includes extensive aeromedical testing in the laboratory and aboard MEDEVAC H-60 helicopters. Certification is issued only after comprehensive testing, to ensure the safety of the aircraft, its systems, its crew and its patients on board.

“We are extremely proud to receive this Airworthiness Certification for the GlideScope® Ranger Video Laryngoscope,” said Vietnam veteran and CEO of Verathon, Gerald McMorrow. “Every letter and e-mail we receive from military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan who are using our devices in the field, renews our commitment to providing well-designed, reliable medical devices for those in harm’s way.”

GlideScope® provides a clear picture of the larynx and vocal cords on a display monitor, enabling visual control of the endotracheal tube (ETT) in its trajectory toward the airway.
