EMS provider likely fell asleep in ambulance rollover crash

Two Iowa EMS providers suffered minor injuries after the ambulance drifted off the road at about 4:30 a.m.

NEWTON, Iowa — Two EMS providers were injured after the driver of the ambulance drifted off the road and into a ditch.

Deputies at Iowa State Patrol say the driver of the Midwest Ambulance likely fell asleep at the wheel while the other provider was sleeping in the back of the rig, WHOTV.com reports.

The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday as the crew was driving from Dubuque to Des Moines.

There was not a patient on board.

Both providers suffered minor injuries after the ambulance rolled over.
