ESO joins forces with the Center for Patient Safety to raise awareness of patient safety in clinical encounters

AUSTIN, Texas — ESO, the leading data and software company serving emergency medical services (EMS), fire departments and hospitals, and the Center for Patient Safety, are joining forces to help raise awareness to vulnerabilities in the healthcare system that can lead to medical mistakes, with the ultimate goal of improving patient safety. The collaboration will initially focus on 18 EMS agencies in northeast Missouri, central North Carolina and central Texas.

“Patient safety is a top priority across the entire healthcare spectrum,” said Dr. Brent Myers, Chief Medical Officer for ESO. “Our partnership with the Center for Patient Safety creates a cooperative and collaborative environment to leverage the power of data to improve community health and safety.”

Key Highlights include:

  • Creating a functional framework: Building a collaborative and group-oriented framework to assess and prevent medical mistakes and improve patient safety.
  • Leveraging the power of data: Using data from a variety of sources to create the most comprehensive dataset possible to pinpoint specific areas for improvement.
  • Ecosystem: Create a vibrant, natural ecosystem between clinical-encounter organizations and patient safety organizations to create a dynamic environment for surfacing, discussing and addressing patient safety concerns.

“By learning what adverse events occur, why they occur and how to prevent them, as well as sharing that learning, we support efforts to reduce medical mistakes and patient harm,” said Lee Varner, Patient Safety Director, EMS Services for the Center for Patient Safety. “Working with ESO offers a seamless way for more licensed healthcare providers to work collaboratively to learn how to reduce serious events and patient harm.”
