LAKEVILLE, MINN. [January 23, 2024] - ImageTrend, LLC. presented research on the overturning of Roe vs. Wade and its impact on prehospital obstetric emergencies. Epidemiologist Morgan K. Anderson, author of the research using the ImageTrend Collaborate™ database, won best poster abstract at the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) annual meeting.
The research, “Impact of Overturning Roe vs. Wade on Obstetric Emergencies in the Prehospital Setting from 2019 to 2023,” highlights the need to further investigate potentially preventable incidents utilizing EMS. Key findings of the research include:
- Women utilizing EMS for obstetric emergencies were more likely to be Black/African American or residing in high poverty counties.
- The odds of having an obstetric emergency were higher in states with limited abortion access.
- Obstetric emergencies of lower acuity and occurring in higher poverty counties increased after the overturning of Roe vs. Wade.
