PRESS RELEASE

VAN WERT, Ohio — Demers Ambulances, an industry leader in purpose-built, ergonomic ambulance design, has been awarded the 2025 EMS World Expo Innovation Award for its latest Type I model, the FXP 174. The new ambulance stood out among the nominees, earning distinction for its groundbreaking approach to improving responder mobility and workflow efficiency.

Each year, EMS World (HMP Global) recognizes products that significantly advance the safety and effectiveness of emergency medical response. During this year’s EMS World Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October, judges visited nominees to evaluate innovations firsthand, meeting with engineers and testing features to determine which products truly push the boundaries of EMS practice and advance the industry.

“Being named an Innovation Award winner is an incredible honor because it validates what drives everything we do—listening to first responders and building ambulances that genuinely reflect their needs,” said Kris Turner, Channel Development Director, U.S. “This recognition reinforces the importance of staying connected to the crews who rely on our products every day. Their feedback directly shapes innovations like the FX Action Seats and the FXP 174. When EMS professionals tell us what would make their work safer, more efficient, or more comfortable, we take that to heart and engineer solutions that move the entire industry forward.”

The FXP 174 represents Demers’ most advanced Type I ambulance to date—a model shaped by extensive field intelligence and ongoing customer collaboration. The ambulance introduces a bold shift in seating innovation with the FX Action Seats. This first-of-its-kind seating system allows emergency responders to remain fully buckled while maintaining full mobility and unobstructed access to the patient. Positioned next to the stretcher, the seats are engineered to increase agility and improve the stability of the responder by enabling leg bracing without sacrificing safety. Each seat includes occupant sensors, an integrated belt system, and an emergency lock tested to withstand 26G acceleration, reinforcing Demers’ focus on intentional, safety-driven engineering.

Beyond the seating innovation, the FXP 174 includes numerous enhancements designed to support real-world EMS operations. The clinical layout centers on responder comfort and efficiency with a door-forward design that improves movement throughout the patient compartment. Additional features include taller rear doors for ergonomic entry and exit, increased interior headroom, optimized storage solutions, and advanced lighting patterns for enhanced visibility.

With the FXP 174 now honored among the top innovations of the year, Demers continues to set the pace for what is possible in emergency vehicle design, reaffirming its belief that innovation happens best when it’s shaped by the people who rely on these vehicles every day.
