Pa. patrol car, ambulance transporting patient collide

The ambulance sustained minor damage, and the patient was transferred to another ambulance for the remainder of the transport.

UPPER ALLEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A marked patrol car was struck by an ambulance on Friday in Upper Allen Township, according to township police.

Upper Allen Township Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop on Route 15 north in the area of West Lisburn Road on Friday. When he was speaking to the driver of that vehicle, his marked patrol vehicle was struck by a Citizens Hose Company ambulance that was transporting a patient from Dillsburg to a local hospital.

The patrol vehicle sustained disabling damage, and the officer was struck by flying debris from the crash, though he was not injured.

The ambulance sustained minor damage, and the patient was transferred to another ambulance for the remainder of the transport.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police ask anyone approaching an emergency response area to change lanes, if possible, and reduce speed to safely pass the area.
