ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A county in Florida has dished out thousands of dollars to buy an ambulance that can transport patients who are severely overweight.
Thirty percent of the patients who called in to Orange County’s Fire and Rescue last year were obese, including a few dozen who weighed more than 500 pounds. The county’s new ride can support a patient weighing up to 1,100 pounds, CF News 13 reports.
Named Bariatric Unit One, fire officials said the purchase will help emergency workers conserve resources.
