Responding Neb. ambulance collides with 2 vehicles

Two personnel from the ambulance, including a ride-along student, were injured in the ambulance collision; 3 women were injured in the initial collision

OMAHA, Neb. — An ambulance, on its way to a West Omaha crash, was involved in a three-vehicle collision Sunday.

Police say a car with three women in it was travelling at a high rate of speed, when the driver lost control, went airborne and struck a light pole, reported WOWT.

The ambulance initially drove past the single-vehicle crash because the car was in a low-lying area. The driver of the ambulance attempted to turn around, crossing three lanes of traffic. Although the ambulance’s lights and sirens were on, fire personnel say the turn led to a three-vehicle collision.

Two people from the ambulance were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A 35-year-old ambulance passenger and a 22-year-old ride-along student were transported to a hospital by ambulance for complaints of pain.

Police report that none of the women in the initial collision were wearing seat belts. Two were hospitalized with critical injuries that are considered life-threatening. The third victim, had non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger of one of the other vehicles involved in the collision was also hospitalized after complaining of pain.
