Ore. funeral home offers bicycle hearse for 1 last ride

Ride to the person’s final resting place is on the back of a three-wheeled bicycle

EUGENE, Ore. — There’s eco friendly, and then there’s green to the grave. A cemetery bikes the dead to the burial, then lay them to rest in a basket casket.

“You can see on the inside here, you got your bamboo backing,” Funeral Director Wade Lind of Sunset Hills Cemetery said. “And when the person’s in there, it’s just so delicate-looking.” Lind says natural burials can lighten the load on the wallet.

“In the basket aspect the weaving is similar but different as far as these are designed to carry up to 300 pounds,” he said.
