LAFAYETTE, La. — A La. ambulance service has evacuated 150 people as of Monday evening and activated its Evacuation Response Operations Center in anticipation of Tropical Storm Isaac.
Acadian Ambulance responded with additional staff to evacuation requests from hospitals and nursing facilities, according to a press release.
Most of the patients have been transported from the New Orleans area to other facilities in Baton Rouge and Lafayette.
Jerry Romero, vice president of operations for Acadian, says that Acadian has upped its staff and equipment to accommodate these requests. The company has also added fuel station depots and generators where power outages are expected.
Romero assured those unaffected by the storm that they can still count on Acadian’s service to be the same.
Acadian had helped evacuated more than 2,000 people from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
