The ride, now in its ninth year, is to honor EMS personnel with a long-distance cycling event

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — Dozens of riders began a journey Sunday that will cover more than 600 miles to remember fallen brothers and sisters in the annual National EMS Memorial Bike Ride.

The ride, now in its ninth year, is to honor EMS personnel with a long-distance cycling event that “memorializes and celebrates the lives of those who serve everyday, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty,” according to organizers, The Muddy Angels.

The East Coast Ride runs from Boston to Washington, DC, while the second part is from Paintsville, Ky., to Washington, DC., with the event coming to a close Saturday.
