SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — An EMS agency used a program that provides education to underrepresented populations, businesses and communities to recruit eight students in to its EMT training class free of charge.

Mohawk Ambulance Service added the students through the Schenectady Social Enterprise and Training Center (SEAT), which augments career preparation training through physical and mental soft skills tests. Trainees will get both classroom and hands-on learning, such as ridealongs with EMS providers.

“Mohawk Ambulance Service established a thorough orientation program to ensure our high standards for excellent emergency medical care are consistently provided by all of our team members,” Mohawk Ambulance Service president James McPartlon III said. “We are pleased to have this group of smart and talented individuals in our current EMT training program and taking the first steps toward providing assistance to those in need in our local communities.”

Mohawk Ambulance Service said they are committed to giving those who may not otherwise have the means and opportunity to purse an EMS career, and the program has already successfully graduated many trainees who are now EMS providers.
