WINTHROP, Maine — After an EMT and his family lost their home in a fire this week, the community has stepped in to support them.

Aaron Chase’s home was consumed by a fire Tuesday, reported WCSH. Winthrop Ambulance Service Deputy Chief Joshua Wheeler said all of the Christmas presents the Chase’s bought were lost in the fire.

“By the time I cleared the scene and got back to the station, there was somewhere around a dozen people already here, making phone calls, seeking donations and setting up resources to try and help them out as soon as possible,” Wheeler said.

Donations from gifts to clothing are being collected the the agency. A GoFundMe page has raised over $5,000 for Chase and his family.

“Aaron is one of our veteran EMTs here,” Wheeler. “It’s a terrible thing to happen to him, but we’re thrilled to be part of trying to help him recover.”

A silent auction and benefit dinner will be held for the family in January.
