NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. — After years of trying to recruit more minorities to its paramedic force, New Castle County has been unable to boost diversity in the department.
The low numbers — six minority employees out of a staff of 104 — are prompting two County Council members to renew their call for change.
“It’s been almost four years since all hell broke loose on this issue,” Councilman Jea P. Street said. “There’s been no substantive change. I don’t know how we go forward and not make someone accountable in this arena.”
