NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. — Four County Paramedics and 5 trainees will be laid off in the next 2 weeks in a move County Executive Coons says will save almost 350 thousand dollars.
Coons says he regrets the layoffs, but AFSCME local 3911’s vote last week against a 5-percent pay cut agreed to by 3 other locals leaves him with no other choice.
Coons is also asking 157 non-union employees to agree to a 5-percent rollback in an effort to close the County’s 40 million-dollar-plus Fiscal Year 2010 budget shortfall.
