New website to help cardiac arrest survivors

LifeAfterSCA.org offers resources to survivors and their families to help them get back to living

MINNEAPOLIS — LifeAfterSCA.org is a new website to help sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survivors overcome the new challenges they face.

The website provides survivors and their families with information and resources, such as links to organizations supporting survivors and tools for helping survivors form and manage support groups.

“We encourage everyone involved with the effort to improve sudden cardiac arrest survival to share LifeAfterSCA.org with survivor groups, hospitals, rehab centers, cardiac care centers, and other healthcare professionals,” said Thomas Rea, medicine professor at the University of Washington. “Together we will raise awareness, support survivors and save lives.”

Created by a consortium of medical professionals, with support from Medtronic Philanthropy’s HeartRescue Project, LifeAfterSCA.org is a free public service. Every year, 40,000 people in the U.S. survive SCA. Survivors face not only changes in their health and behavior, but also changes in their way of thinking about themselves and about life.
