GLENDALE, Calif. — Paramedics saved the life of an infant who was not breathing after he was born soon after completing a class on childbirth.

CBS Los Angeles reported that a Glendale Fire Department crew responded to a call about a woman in labor and found that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, and the infant was not breathing.

The paramedics jumped into action, removing the cord from the baby’s neck and performing chest compressions.

The baby began to breathe on his own while he and the mother were transported to the hospital.

The fire department said the paramedics had just completed a training course on childbirth and learned how to handle the exact scenario they experienced.

Officials said the mother and child are both healthy.
