5 warrants issued for structure collapse in 2016 Warrior Dash

The deputy state fire marshal said construction was to blame when a climbing obstacle collapsed under more than 20 people during a race

NEW ORLEANS — Five arrest warrants have been filed nearly a year after a climbing obstacle collapsed under more than 20 people during a Louisiana race.

The deputy state fire marshal says two North Carolina contractors as well as one former and two current employees of the Chicago company that runs Warrior Dash races are expected to turn themselves in to face 13 misdemeanor counts of negligent injury. Brant Thompson blames the accident on shoddy construction and failure to follow proper procedures.

More than a dozen people were hospitalized after the October collapse.

Red Frog Events spokeswoman Lauren King said Friday the company worked closely with investigators and didn’t find anything that would warrant criminal charges.

One contractor didn’t immediately respond to a phone message. Nobody answered a possible listing for the other contractor’s company.
