CHATHAM, Mass. — A Harwich paramedic gets hands-on in the delivery of his own daughter.
Tom Gould was on duty at the Harwich Fire Department early yesterday when his pregnant wife, Sarah, called to say she was having contractions.
By the time he rushed home, her labor was so advanced she couldn’t walk to the car. So Gould called rescuers to the home where they were staying in Chatham and they boarded an ambulance headed toward Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
But little baby Lily wasn’t going to wait.
The seven-pound, five-ounce girl was born somewhere on Route 6 near Exit 8. Her dad cut her umbilical cord in the back of the speeding ambulance.
Sarah Gould tells the Cape Cod Times that she “felt more calm” knowing her husband was along for the ride.
And Tom Gould — the new dad — says it was an “amazing experience.”
