GREENFIELD, Ind. — Greenfield Fire Chief Lewis McQueen has recommended that paramedic Theresa Rinehart be fired after the county’s new medical director banned her from providing emergency medical services.
In a letter to McQueen dated Tuesday, the medical director, Dr. John Jones, says Rinehart won’t be allowed to practice as a paramedic under his license. The move continues a suspension first put in place last October by the previous medical director, Dr. William Rutherford. It essentially means she can’t be a paramedic in Hancock County.
McQueen told Mayor Rodney Fleming on Wednesday that he would ask the city’s board of works to fire Rinehart. City policy requires that all firefighters also function as paramedics. “We have no option other than to terminate her employment,” the chief says in a letter to Fleming.
