TEXAS CITY, Texas — Ricky Hayes says he doesn’t much like being the lightning rod of a controversial regional emergency medical service plan. But with a Feb. 28 court date looming, the ambulance driver finds himself smack dab in the middle of a battle pitting government against private business.
It’s a battle that is likely to rage on in city commission chambers today.
Hayes, a driver for Windsor EMS, was arrested last week for violating a decade-old, but rarely enforced ambulance ordinance. In short, the ordinance restricts the ability of private ambulance firms to provide medical transportation within city limits.
