ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — An ambulance was involved in a deadly wreck Monday afternoon.
According to Highway Patrol, the Catawba County EMS truck was on a routine patient transport, heading west on Teague Town Road when a Ford Escape traveling east crossed the center line and hit the ambulance head on.
The accident happened just after 1:30 p.m.
The driver of the Ford Escape, 67-year-old Patrick Salmons, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.
Ambulance driver Nathan Turner was pinned inside the vehicle and had to be airlifted to CMC-Main. He is reported to have serious injuries.
Both the paramedic and patient in the ambulance were taken to Frye Regional Medical Center.
Police say Salmons did have prior medical conditions, and that may have caused the wreck.
