Ambulance delayed, Wash. man dies from chainsaw cut

A man died of a bad chainsaw cut after an apparent dispatching foulup delayed the arrival of an ambulance, a Pend Oreille County sheriff’s officer said.

Randell S. Howland, 46, wounded himself on the inside of his left thigh just above the knee about 5 p.m. Thursday when the chainsaw slipped as he was cutting wood at his home in the Riverside area, Sgt. Grant Sirevog said.

Family members administered first aid, but by the time Deer Park Ambulance Services personnel arrived the medics were unable to revive Howland and he was pronounced dead at 5:56 p.m.
