BILOXI, Miss. — An AMR ambulance crew rescued a male pit bull darting in and out of traffic Thursday morning on busy U.S. 90.

“We figured he was going to get run over or cause an accident,” said EMT Arthur Deborger of American Medical Response, who was with paramedic Sara Rittenhouse.

They pulled into the turn lane for St. John Avenue, where Rittenhouse jumped out to catch the pooch.

“He came right up to her and made quick friends with her,” Deborger said.

The two called Biloxi animal control, which came and picked up the dog to take him to the Harrison County Humane Society.

Deborger said he’s a cat person, but the pit bull must have recognized Rittenhouse as a dog lover. She has three dogs at home in Gulfport.

She said, “I’m going to wait 10 days and take him home if nobody claims him.”
