CHESTER, S.C. — A Chester teenager’s foot was amputated Friday morning after emergency officials say it was run over by a train as he walked along the tracks near his house.

The boy, whose name is not yet available, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, said Rickey Bell, Chester County EMS supervisor. He did not suffer any other injuries.

Emergency officials have blocked Lancaster and Hinton Streets as crews continue to secure the scene. Chester EMS, fire department, city police and the Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident, Bell said.

The boy was hit on Torbit Street as he walked along the railroad tracks toward the back of his house, he said.

Officials over emergency radio bands said the teen had been smoking marijuana when the train came by. Over the scanner, paramedics said the teen stuck his foot out on the track as the train passed.

The amputated foot was recovered and was on ice as the boy was being taken to the hospital.
