WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — A 17-year-old driver is in custody after allegedly slamming into a van that was following an ambulance. The collision injured five people, some seriously.
The ambulance was transporting a patient from Lutheran Hospital to another facility and the patient’s family was following the ambulance in a minivan, police said in the press release. A vehicle traveling at about 100 mph hit the van, and knocked it into the ambulance. The impact sent debris flying as far as three blocks from the scene.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was booked and released pending charges.
