WEST BRANCH, Iowa — An ambulance rollover caused by black ice injured two EMS providers and a patient they were transporting.

WHOTV reported that the ambulance was taking the patient to the hospital when the slick road caused the driver to lose control, according to police.

The two EMS providers and patient were transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

“We were able to look at the data and see that speed was not a factor in this case it was just a case of Iowa winter weather and a piece of black ice,” Scott County EMS fleet manager Jeremy Pessman said.

The data was taken from a Zoll Road Safety device, which was recently installed in the ambulance.

“It ensures that we are driving the ambulance safely that the driver is not going too fast or going around the corners too sharp,” Pessman said.
