Scottish air ambulance paramedic to skydive for charity

Craig McDonald will face his fears to raise funds for three charities he holds close to his heart

PERTH, Scotland — An air ambulance paramedic is facing his fears to raise money for charity by jumping out of a plane.

The Scotsman reported that Craig McDonald will make a sponsored jump to help SCAA, Scotland’s charity-funded air ambulance.

“People think that because I’m an air ambulance paramedic I must be confident doing a skydive, but I’m just not that brave. In fact, I’m terrified,” McDonald said. “The main difference is that when I’m flying with SCAA the helicopter always lands down gently and delivers me safely back to earth. I’m never expected to leap out and make my own way down at 120 miles per hour.”

McDonald said that he cares about the charities because he has witnessed firsthand what they can do.

“I witness people willing to put themselves through physical and mental challenges for SCAA constantly and I thought it was time I stepped up to the mark.”

McDonald will make the tandem skydive from a light aircraft, freefalling for 5,000 feet before opening his parachute.

“Skydiving was never on my wish list but I’m determined to make that leap of faith and hope for the best. Who knows – I might even enjoy it.”
