Del. ambulance collides with state patrol cruiser

Crew was responding to call at state park, trooper suffers minor injuries

LEWES, Del. — An ambulance rushing to an emergency at Cape Henlopen State Park crashed into an unmarked state trooper car at an intersection in Lewes on Wednesday.

The 48-year-old state trooper, who was not identified, reportedly suffered minor injuries, while the ambulance driver, James E. Vanvorst, and his 39-year-old male passenger were not injured, according Delaware State Police spokesman Gary Fournier, who added that the occupants of both vehicles were properly restrained.

The crash reportedly occurred about 11:07 a.m. as the Lewe Fire Company ambulance was responding to a report of a drowning at Cape Henlopen State Park.
