CECIL COUNTY, Md. — A 10-year-old girl is in critical condition and on life support after she was hit in the head with what police believe to be a stray bullet fired during a New Year’s Eve celebration.
Cecil County Sherriff’s Office Lt. Michael Holmes said the girl was standing in the yard of her home watching fireworks go off when she suddenly collapsed, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Lt. Holmes said the incident is under investigation and that officials are searching the area. He added that shooting off guns during New Year celebrations is “unfortunately fairly common” in the area.
