SASKATOON, Canada —A paramedic was honored for saving his lifelong friend who suffered cardiac arrest while the two were golfing.
The Star Phoenix reported that off-duty paramedic Brandon Blondeau and his father, Dr. Joseph Blondeau, were golfing when they learned that Brandon’s lifelong friend, Michael Isely, had collapsed while golfing on the next hole.
The two jumped into action and worked as a team to treat Isely with an AED until he was revived.
“When I got there, I realized Mike didn’t have a pulse, so I started CPR,” Brandon said. “But there was a moment of panic. I can briefly remember one second where my mind kind of jumped to an, ‘Oh my God’ moment because it was someone I’ve known for so long and it was the last thing I was expecting to happen to my friend, but it was very brief and I was able to snap out of it.”
Brandon said he joked to Isely afterwards that he owed him lunch.
“I’m very thankful,” Isely said. “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.”
Medavie Health Services awarded Brandon and Joseph the Heart Safe Award for their heroic efforts.
