COVENTRY, England — A new course to help midwives and paramedics deal with emergencies arising from childbirth at home has proved a success.
More than 140 people took part in the session at Coventry University, run by mother and baby charity Baby Lifeline. The aim was to give advice to those who deal with planned or unplanned home births.
Judy Ledger, founder of Baby Lifeline, said she was delighted with the response from people all over the country who wanted to attend the course.
“We don’t usually have paramedics attending our courses so it was a fantastic response to have a big group from London come along. We had some brilliant feedback,” she said. “The course consisted of lectures on the different scenarios of emergency situations. Then in the afternoon we had workshop sessions where people could practise.”
It was also a chance to introduce new guidelines drawn up for ambulance crews with input from experts at Warwick University.
