BALTIMORE — During a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix, a woman suffered a medical emergency. X user Andrew Springs, who was also on the flight, detailed the incident, noting she had a weak pulse, “extremely low” blood pressure and needed oxygen in order to breathe. That’s when a man stood up and asked, “Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.”
That man was the Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, who’s a Type 1 diabetic.
A woman on my @southwest flight from Baltimore to Phoenix this morning had a mid-flight medical emergency. The doctor and nurse attending to her couldn’t find a strong pulse, her blood pressure was extremely low, and required oxygen to breathe. It was genuinely scary. (1/3)

Andrews instructed those tending to the woman how to properly use the testing kit. They were able to get her heart rate stabilized and once the plane landed, paramedics were able to treat the woman.
“Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare. As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most,” Springs wrote on social media.
While Andrews played a big role in the incident, he also credited those who helped her during the medical emergency.

“In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane,” Andrews said in a statement shared by the Ravens. “Thankfully they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed.”
