LONDON —A paramedic who was one of the first responders on the scene of the London Bridge terror attack was honored at an awards ceremony.

BBC reported that Andy Beasley was commended for his “exceptional bravery” by the Metropolitan Police.

Beasley risked his life to save victims of the attack that killed eight people and injured 48 more.

“I was very, very nervous,” Beasley said. “We got on the scene very quickly, and we then heard gunfire. As soon as the gunfire had finished, I’d come back out and my training just kicked in. I needed to get as many patients out of the area and into the hospital as soon as I possibly could.”

First responders were able to save dozens of lives despite the danger of the situation.

“Everyone just mucked in, one big team, and we just made it,” Beasley said.
