BENTLEYVILLE, Pa. — A state trooper is recovering after being hit by a large pickup truck while directing traffic for an accident on Wednesday evening. The force threw Trooper Heather Gonglik into the air, police said, but she got up immediately to pursue the Ford F-250 that struck her.

“This is my 18th year in law enforcement. I’ve never seen a police officer get struck by a car and get back up,” said Southwest Regional Police Sgt. Joseph Pocsatko. Pocsatko was conducting a sobriety test for a DUI accident on Main Street. He called state police in Belle Vernon to direct traffic to protect him from passing cars. However, one truck wouldn’t stop.

In a media report about the incident, Trooper Matthew Gavrish wrote, “The victim (Gonglik) eventually managed to stop the vehicle and approached the driver’s side to speak to the accused. After speaking for a short time, the accused began to drive away, ignoring the victim’s commands to stop.”
